Moving day

Six Weeks Before Move:

  • Call for moving estimates.
  • Call the Chamber Of Commerce and Visitors & Convention Bureau in your new town and get their new resident information packages.
  • Inventory all household items to be moved, and start packing NOW!
  • Remove all items from basement, storage sheds, attics, and plan a garage sale or charity donation for all items you don't want to move.
  • Start using things up that you can't move, like cleaning supplies and frozen food.
  • Discuss tax-related moving expenses, liabilities, and deductions with your tax advisor.
  • Make a list of all people/organizations to contact about change of address.
  • Complete U.S. Postal Service change of address forms and mail them to all applicable publications, stores and organizations.
  • Get copies of (or arrange for transfer at both ends of move) all school, medical, dental, veterinary, legal, and accounting records.
  • Contact insurance agents to transfer or cancel coverage.
  • If it's a company move, check with your employer to find out what moving expenses they cover.
  • Get a mail subscription for the local paper in your new location to familiarize yourself with the new community, its activities and issues.
  • Locate and obtain all automobile licensing and registration information.

Four Weeks Before Move:

  • Get an itemized list of all moving related costs and review with mover, including packing, loading, special charges, insurance, vehicles (if needed), etc.
  • Contact all current and new location utility companies (gas, water, electric, cable TV, phone & trash collection) to set connect/disconnect dates. Remember to keep current utilities hooked up until move day.
  • Make arrangements for relocation of pets and plants.
  • Move valuables to safe deposit box to prevent loss during move.
  • If you are packing yourself, acquire packing materials/boxes and pack items you won't need for the next month.
  • If professional mover is packing your goods, schedule packing day(s) 1 or 2 days before move.
  • Prepare any mowers, snow blowers, boats, snowmobiles (or other vehicles you won't be using before the move) for the move by servicing and draining gas and oil, to prevent a moving van fire.
  • Repair, send out for re-upholstery, or clean furniture, drapes, carpeting as needed.

  • Give away all plants you don't intend to move.
  • If you're moving out of a building with elevators, arrange with management for use of elevators on move day.
  • Schedule for appliance disconnects on moving day or the day before the move, if necessary.
  • Contact your moving company counselor to review and confirm all arrangements for your move.

What our clients are saying

As a (former) military member I can account for how stressful the homebuying process can be and normally is. As an at the time military member going through another one of life's difficult transitions it was proving to be far more difficult than usual. That was until I met Steven. Having worked with the Owner of RedPoint Real Estate I can say with confidence that I have never met a more professional, friendly, competent, and dedicated Realtor. The experience was beyond my expectations the easiest I have ever been a part of (and there have been many). Steven was able not only to get me into my home quickly and assist with any questions that came up, but went the extra mile to make me feel at home in the community I remain a part of. If you are on the fence on who to go with, you shouldn't be. Give him a call and save yourself the hassle of dealing with the alternatives.

~ Kevin

I had the pleasure of working with Steven on the purchase of a home. He was extremely informative but not overbearing. Was available when convenient to me and really listened to what I had to say and ask. You cannot go wrong working with Steven!

~ Joe

Steven was amazing on selling our home. He made it less stressful and answered all my questions. Very knowledgeable and easy to work with. I highly recommend him. Treats you like family.

~ Kelly O'Banion

Absolutely amazing!!! Steven was with us as first time buyers and a complicated process and was clear and informative the whole through. Couldn’t be here without Steven

~ Cris Slabbert

I can’t possibly convey how awesome my experience was working with Steven Lowery and Redpoint Real Estate. My house listed, sold and closed in just two weeks. Steven made the house selling process absolutely flawless. He listened to my needs and made the sell happen quicker than I imagined. Thank you so much Steven for being reliable, honest and dependable. If you are in the market to buy or sell please consider Steven and Redpoint Real Estate.

~ Crystal Overby

There is just too many positive things I could say about Redpoint and Steven Lowery that I'm not sure where to even start. First, above all other things, I can say he is the most honest person you will find in any business. He is going to do what is right first and worry about his commission last. Second, Steven is VERY knowledgeable about the market and what to expect during the buying or selling process of your home. He prepped me in advance of what to expect, how to navigate bumps in the road, and make the experience almost painless. He was an amazing advocate on my behalf when negotiating the sale of my home and handled every issue that arose to make sure the sale went smoothly. He helped with handyman tasks to please the buyer, he arranged and scheduled all title work, and ultimately had the closing ready before I was even aware we had gotten that far. He surpassed all of my expectations and was absolutely wonderful to work with.

You’re the best! Saved us a lot of cash on both the sale and buy!! Recommend to everyone in need of the best realtor. Thank you Steven.

~ Eddie Christian

Top notch company. Buying a house is very stressful but they made things easier. I loved that they valued honesty over making a dollar. They were by my side every step of the way making sure everything was done to ensure I was making a good purchase that also met my needs. A+ customer service!

~ Melanie Kirby

I can’t say enough about my experience with selling my house in Rosewood Nc. Steven was by far the most helpful and honestly seemed more positive than other realtors I had spoke too prior to listing my home. He was amazing when I needed an electrician, contractors he had a referral list an arms length long! He honestly made one of the most stressful times in my life work out so amazingly and in the end we sold the house in only 8 days! If your looking to sell or buy he’s the one and only I would recommend 100 times over!

~ TinaDee England

Moving from Vermont to North Carolina was quite the experience and some what of a headache. Steven made the headache go away and made the home buying process very easy. Showed us around a area that was very new to us. Steven found us the perfect home within our budget and took care of everything for us. He was always available to answer all my stupid questions! Even after the sale, we keep in touch. I will definitely be using him again and recommend him to anyone that is looking for a down to earth realtor!!
